DoorDash is introducing a new way to pay for food and grocery deliveries by partnering with Klarna, a popular financial services company. This partnership will allow customers to choose from flexible payment options, including paying in four interest-free installments or deferring their payments to a later date.

How Klarna Works on DoorDash

When checking out on DoorDash, customers will now see Klarna as a payment option. They can choose from:

  • Pay in full (as usual)
  • Pay in four equal, interest-free installments
  • Defer payments to a later time

According to Anand Subbarayan, Head of Money Products at DoorDash, this move aligns with the company’s expansion into groceries, beauty, electronics, and gifts, where flexible payment options can benefit customers. The Klarna payment option will roll out in the coming months.

Who Can Use Klarna on DoorDash?

One common concern is whether people will start financing small food orders, but Klarna clarified that its installment payment options are only available for orders of $35 or more. This means that you won’t be able to finance a single $2 Taco Bell taco, but larger purchases—like group orders, grocery deliveries, or expensive meals—are eligible.



Interestingly, 25% of DoorDash purchases are not meal deliveries, making this option useful for customers using the platform for other types of purchases.

Grubhub Also Uses Klarna

DoorDash isn’t the first food delivery service to integrate Klarna—its competitor Grubhub also offers Klarna as a payment option. As the “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) trend grows, more companies are embracing flexible payment solutions to attract customers.

Dave Ramsey and Public Reaction

Not everyone is excited about financing food delivery. Financial expert Dave Ramsey reacted to the news with frustration, posting a clip of himself putting his head in his hands on social media.

Some online users agree, with one comment on Ramsey’s post stating:

"The only person this would be aimed at is someone that says, 'Damn, I can't afford a $12 DoorDash. Ohhh! I can pay in installments?? I'm in!'"

Despite the skepticism, Klarna defends the partnership, stating that many people already use credit cards for food deliveries, and their interest-free installment plans offer a better alternative.

DoorDash’s Klarna partnership brings more payment flexibility to customers, particularly those purchasing groceries and higher-priced items. While some critics question the necessity of installment payments for food, DoorDash and Klarna believe it offers a smarter way to manage purchases without high-interest credit cards.

The Klarna option will be available in the coming months, giving customers more choices when ordering through DoorDash.
