'Malcolm in the Middle' Revival: Cast, Release Date, and Everything You Need to Know

The highly anticipated 'Malcolm in the Middle' revival is officially happening, and fans of the classic sitcom couldn’t be more excited. Disney+ is bringing back several original cast members while introducing fresh faces to continue the story of one of television’s most beloved dysfunctional families. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming four-episode limited series.

Who's Returning for the 'Malcolm in the Middle' Revival?

Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are reprising their roles as Francis and Reese, respectively. Fans will also see the return of Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, Bryan Cranston as Hal, and Jane Kaczmarek as Lois.

Additionally, Kiana Madeira will join the cast as Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend.

Who’s Not Returning?

One significant casting change is the recasting of Dewey, originally played by Erik Per Sullivan. Since Per Sullivan has stepped away from acting, his role will now be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark (known for his work in Fargo and The Expanse).

New Characters and Cast Members

Alongside the returning characters, the revival will introduce new members of the Wilkerson family:

  • Anthony Timpano (Riverdale, Nancy Drew) as Jamie, Malcolm’s youngest brother.
  • Vaughan Murrae (Before I Change My Mind, The Way Home) as Kelly, Malcolm’s youngest sibling, who was hinted at in the original series finale.
  • Keeley Karsten (The Fabelmans, Hunters) as Leah, Malcolm’s daughter. She is described as having Malcolm’s intelligence, sarcasm, and impulsiveness but is more sensitive and emotional.

Plot and Production Details

According to the official logline, the revival follows Malcolm and his daughter as they get caught up in the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand Malcolm’s presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.

The revival is created by Linwood Boomer, who also wrote and produced the original series. Ken Kwapis will direct all four episodes. Executive producers include Bryan Cranston, Tracy Katsky, Gail Berman, and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann. The series is being produced by 20th Television and New Regency.

Where and When Will the Revival Premiere?

Production is set to begin in the coming weeks in Vancouver. While an official release date has not been announced, fans can expect the limited series to drop on Disney+ sometime in 2025.

The return of Malcolm in the Middle is a nostalgic treat for longtime fans and an exciting introduction for a new generation. With original cast members, intriguing new characters, and the same comedic chaos that made the show a classic, this revival is shaping up to be a must-watch event.
